Karşıyaka Suzan Divrik Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School

The history of our school dates back to Karşıyaka Teacher Training School for Girls. This school started to operate in 1915 in the compound which is now occupied by Karşıyaka High School. It was then converted into French Secondary School and became the first secondary school of Karşıyaka serving only male students under the name of Karşıyaka Secondary School. In 1949, it was renamed as Evening Art School for Girls and trained girls in the fields of traditional arts. Another school was added to be part of our school under the name of Secondary Art School for Girls in the academic year of 1959-1960. At the beginning of the academic year of 1962-1963, the second high school of Karşıyaka was opened up under the name of Art Institute for Girls. As the existing building of the school started to become too small for us and runs the risk of collapse, a new building was constructed after the land which was previously used as a marketplace in Karşıyaka had been expropriated. Our school moved to its current building (located at 1737 Street, 68/A) on 22.11.1965 as the Art Institute for Girls which is still in use. The number of its students increased as it was the only Art Institute for Girls and provided both the secondary and high school education. An annexed building was contructed in the same garden to meet the demand caused by increased number of students, which started its activities in the academic year of 1967-1968.

Our school which continues its operations as Vocational High School for Girls started to cover the curriculum for Anatolian Vocational High Schools in the academic year of 1990-1991 after its infrastructure and equipment had been found adequate. It started to provide mixed-sex education under the name of Karşıyaka Vocational and Anatolian Vocational High School for Girls. A new building was constructed due to the increased number of students which started to serve in the academic year of 2001-2002.

As this building did not fulfil the requirements of the seismic regulation which had been adopted following the earthquake in Marmara region, it had to be demolished. It was reconstructed thanks to the charity funds provided by Suzan DİVRİK. The new building started to be used in 2010.

In 2014, it was transformed into Suzan Divrik Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School within the scope of the circular of Directorate General of Vocational Education and Training on reducing the diversity of schools in vocational and technical secondary education.

Karşıyaka Suzan Divrik Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which added the Vocational Education Centre Programme among its activities in 2021-2022 school year, carries out quality education processes with a vision to train young people “who are not in demand of jobs, but are demanded in the jobs”.
